New Delhi: The government on Thursday launched an initiative under which steel makers will add ‘Made in India’ label to their products to promote locally made goods globally. The purpose of this step is to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi’sMake in India‘Viewpoint, Union Steel Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia Said.

It said that Secondary Steel Industries (SSI) will join the initiative in the second phase.
Scindia chairs an advisory committee meeting to discuss the progress of the Steel Ministry and the first-of-its-kind initiative Ministry of Commerce And the industry will start branding and labeling ‘Made-in-India’ steel products in the global market.
Apart from making Indian steel products more attractive to buyers, it will also ensure standardized quality of goods, it said.
Minister of State for Steel Faggan Singh Kulaste and heads of various steel PSUs attended the meeting here.
During the meeting, he “highlighted the importance of branding in promoting the Indian steel industry and realizing PM Narendra Modi’s ‘Make in India’ vision.”
He also stressed on efforts to make India as the world’s manufacturing hub, which requires a unified and distinctive identity for Indian steel that reflects its quality, innovation and sustainability practices.
“This is the first initiative taken by any ministry to start labeling and branding of the sector’s products. The Steel Ministry is the first ministry to start such a branding process, where a single brand identity for Indian-made steel will represent India .Strong manufacturing capacity,” Scindia said.
‘Made in India’ branding has been introduced for select products of all major ISPs.
ISP-QCI (Quality Council of India) portal application programming interface (API) integration has also been completed for label and QR code authentication, he said.
The minister said the rollout will be expanded to include more products as well as SSI products in the next phase.
“All ISPs and 65 per cent of steel products in India have been integrated with the finalized common labels for all product categories. Size and space have been allotted for the Made in India logo for each label,” the ministry said. ”
It added that the text Made in India will be used until the logo is finalized by DPIIT.
