Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman Presenting the Modi government’s last budget in Parliament before the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, he said on Thursday that the economy is going through a significant transformation.
Emphasizing the government’s focus on improving conditions for marginalized groups, Sitharaman said, “Poor, women, Youth And for the government, farmers are four castes”.
“The average real income of people increased by 50%,” Sitharaman said, adding that about 25 crore people have been freed from multidimensional poverty in the last 10 years.
Talking about the housing benefits provided by the government, Sitharaman said, “Despite the challenges due to Covid, the implementation of PM Awas Yojana Gramin continued and we are close to achieving the target of 3 crore houses.”
“2 crore more houses will be built in the next 5 years to meet the need arising from the increase in the number of families,” he said.
Highlighting the women empowerment measures taken by the government, she said, “Making triple talaq illegal, reserving one-third legislative seats for women highlights the women empowerment program of the government.”
Highlighting the Centre’s initiatives for youth development, Sitharaman said, PM Mudra Yojana has sanctioned loans worth Rs 43 crore. Rs 22.5 lakh crore for the entrepreneurial aspirations of your youth.”
“Fund of Funds, Startup India and Startup Credit Guarantee schemes are helping our youth,” he said.
Sitharaman said that the full budget will be presented in July.
