New Delhi: The Government announced Thursday the expansion of Plan To refund duties and taxes e-commerce export through post and courier and said it is planning several other steps to ensure that Indian goods sold through this route can make a dent in the global market, which is currently dominated by China.
“To enable the MSME sector to achieve RoDTEP Benefits“Government will extend RoDTEP benefits, especially for exports through e-commerce,” Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal Told reporters.
He said the sectors that could benefit from the move include gems and jewellery, handloom, handicrafts, AYUSH products, pharma, leather and textiles. “Collectively, we believe this initiative will benefit MSME exports worth $1-2 billion annually,” Goyal said.
The Scheme for Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products (RoDTEP) provides for refund of those taxes, duties and levies which are incurred by exporters in the process of manufacturing and distribution of goods and are not reimbursed under any other mechanism at the Centre. Separately, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade has initiated talks with the revenue department for faster clearance of e-commerce consignments to boost its exports.
