New Delhi: A senior Finance Ministry official on Monday said the government is likely to stick to the budgetary estimate of total tax collection target of Rs 33.6 lakh crore for the current financial year in the revised estimates.
“So far, direct tax collections have increased by about 20% indirect tax5% more. “We have data for up to eight months of the financial year and generally collections are better in the first half,” an official said. Therefore, for now, we will stick to the budget numbers in our revised estimates. For 2023-24, the budget estimated tax collection at Rs 33.6 lakh crore, 10% higher than last year’s Rs 30.5 lakh crore.
